VALERIE LYONS
President
Valerie is the current President of ACCV, a Board Director of Aged & Community Services Australia, a member of National Disability Services State Committee and a member of the NAB Health Advisory Council. Currently, Valerie is the Chief Executive Officer of Villa Maria. Serving more than 5,000 people across the state, Villa Maria offers over 60 programs through 42 metropolitan and regional locations, including residential aged care and community care options.
With twenty years leadership in the aged and community services sector and extensive experience across the health and finance industries, Valerie has proven to be a strong and committed advocate for effective policy and sector change. Valerie holds qualifications in finance and post graduate management, is studying for her Masters in Social Policy and Management and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Corporate Directors (FAICD), the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants (FCPA) and the Institute of Corporate Managers Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS).
MAL HUMPHRIES
Vice President
Malcolm is the current Vice President of ACCV, having been a Board Member for five years, and is deeply committed to improving quality of care for older people. He is the Director of Development of Arcare Pty Ltd, a private sector aged care provider which, over the past 10 years, has grown to 15 facilities nationally. Malcolm is active in the Church of Christ, where he has been a member of the Eldership Council for the past six years. A Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and previously a Certified Practicing Accountant for 25 years, he was also a Minister of Religion where he ministered both in Australia and in mission roles overseas.
KEVIN O'SULLIVAN
Deputy Vice President
Kevin is the proprietor of a 45 bed residential aged care facility in Boronia and has worked in the aged care industry for more than 17 years, primarily as a proprietor of three aged care facilities. He is a member of both ACCV’s Finance and Audit Committee and ACCV Executive Committee.
JEFF DAVEY
Chair, Finance & Risk Committee
Jeff Davey has been involved in the aged and community care sector for almost 20 years, and is currently the Chief Executive of Baptcare. Prior to commencing with Baptcare in 1992, Jeff held various professional and managerial roles in the accounting profession, the banking sector and in community organisations. Jeff is the chairperson of the ACCV Board Finance and Risk Committee and is a past chairperson of ACCV’s Issues and Challenges Taskforce.
CAROL ALLEN
Carol has worked as a CEO in the community sector for over 20 years and been a Director of aged care services both residential and community since 2003. Carol joined the Blue Cross Board in 2005 and in 2006 Carol became the CEO responsible for the operations of Residential and Care at Home, Marketing and Human Resources. Carol’s passion is to change the way aged care is delivered, under her leadership she has a team of highly committed and experienced managers who share her vision. She is also the president of the StarBright Learning Exchange (Inc), a not for profit organisation set up to establish a learning exchange with early childhood educators in Australia and South Africa to benefit young orphaned African children who have been infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and is on the Board of Gowrie Victoria.
BILL APPLEBY
Driven by a personal objective to care more than others think is wise, to risk more than others think is safe, to dream more than others think is practical, and to expect more than others think is possible, Bill is driven in his desire to create value through change. Bill is a strong executive leader with extensive experience and strategic understanding of the aged care and community services. Bill’s deep commitment to community welfare is well suited to his current role as Chief Executive Officer, Jewish Care, a diverse not-for-profit organization that supports the vulnerable, provides aid in times of hardship and crisis, and creates opportunities to strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of the Melbourne Jewish community. Originally trained as a Division 1 Registered Nurse, Bill holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA); Graduate Diploma Industrial Relations/Human Resource Management; and an Associate Diploma Occupational Health & Safety. Bill is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and has served as a Director on the Tweddle Child & Family Health Service Board (VIC) for six years. Bill is passionate about value based leadership and how to influence a “good society.”
JOE CARUSO
Joseph’s career has spanned private accounting practice, local government, Rural Ambulance Victoria and Alpine Health, before moving into aged care. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of St Johns Village in Wangaratta. Joseph sees the importance of a strong association such as ACCV, to convey the sector’s dedication to the care of the older people and the voice of members to the Government and community. Joseph understands the issues facing rural providers and has chaired the Hume Regional ACCV forum for three years. He continues to be an active member of that group. Joseph holds a Bachelor of Business Degree and is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Accountants.
PAUL GREGERSEN
Paul Gregersen has been a Managing Director for over 20 years, with a particular focus on understanding customers to ensure excellence in service delivery. Paul joined Bupa in 2001. After managing Bupa’s largest hospital in the UK for 3 years, Paul moved with Bupa to Singapore as CEO for a number of primary health and care businesses in Asia. In 2006, Paul was appointed Director and Chief Representative for Bupa in China where he established a Representative Office and scoped the market opportunity for health insurance. Since October 2008, Paul has led Bupa Care Services in Australia. During this time, the company has experienced strong growth and developed a philosophy that puts the resident at the heart of ‘everything we do’. Bupa Care Services has 47 aged care homes, caring for 4,000 residents across Australia.
SANDRA HILLS
With roles and qualifications spanning nursing, psychology, sociology, research and business management, Sandra has plenty of experience to draw upon in her role as Chief Executive Officer of Benetas. One of Victoria’s largest not-for-profit providers of aged care, Benetas offers a range of services to ensure older people from all backgrounds enjoy a positive experience of ageing. Sandra worked in health and community services at various levels of government before moving to the not-for-profit sector. She has consistently demonstrated a clear talent for leadership, is an astute strategic and financial planner and researcher, and also has experience with human resources, property, program development, and partnerships and communications. Sandra is an active participant on boards and advisory groups and is a director of Aged and Community Care Victoria, and Anglicare Australia, and is a member of the Aged Care Consultative Committee for the Department of Health and Ageing.
PETRA NEELEMAN
Petra is the CEO of DutchCare Ltd which provides care for 900 older people per week. Petra believes that the very best care must be offered to older people, even if that means challenging current systems. She is a member of ACCV’s Finance and Audit Committee as well as the Issues and Challenges, Conference and Cultural Diversity Taskforces. Petra has a Bachelor of Business and is the 2006 winner of the Jonas Kreveld Award for services to business and the community. She was a founding board member and past chairperson of Eden-in-Oz, a not-for-profit organisation promoting the care environments as habitats for human beings that promote health and well being.
INGRID WILLIAMS
Ingrid has been the Chief Executive of TLC Aged Care since January 2007. TLC Aged Care has 9 facilities across Victoria, caring for over 1000 residents. Ingrid has over 25 years experience within the aged care and acute hospital sector, previously working for both private and not for profit hospital groups. Ingrid originally trained as a nurse and also holds a Masters in Health Administration, a Bachelor of Educational Studies and a Diploma of Business (Frontline Management). Ingrid is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a fellow of the Williamson Community Leadership Program.
