Founder of the Eden Alternative philosophy in the U.S. Dr Bill Thomas believes that the three issues that kill older people are the plagues of helplessness, loneliness and boredom. The training provided by Eden in Oz gives practical tools to challenge the status quo, question how we do things and shows us how it can be different. The essence of care is in “empowerment” and creating an environment that fosters growth for all. Making life more meaningful and the world a better place for the elders automatically creates a better place, for everyone, including staff. The training provided will set you on a journey that will bring you and your organisation to a place of maximising “growth” and harmony. Ten principles are used as guidelines in how to bring about culture change and a registration process for your organisation keeps you on track ensuring your journey is true. There are mentors to help you through the process and a website that gives access to forums for questions and answers and an “info email”.
For elders who want to be in the best place they can be; families who wish to be involved and want the best for their loved ones; staff who desire to be working with organisations that care about them as people and help them grow – do yourself a favour and check out the Eden in Oz website - we would love to hear from you!
