The Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC), of which ACCV is represented by it's national associations, has issued the below media release on behalf of the industry.

The Aged Care Industry IT Council (ACIITC) has welcomed the announcement by Ministers’ Plibersek and Conroy of funds to support piloting of home based health technologies to support people in their homes.

Suri Ramanathan, Chair, ACIITC said, ’the matching of the internet and home based technologies will be crucial for Australia, if we wish people to remain in their own homes.’

Rob Hankins, Acting ACSA CEO, said ‘community care service providers are starting to deploy video systems, digitised blood pressure devices and fall alerts in the homes of frail older persons. This type of technology requires a lot of bandwidth and speed if it is to support ongoing quality care and achieve maximum service efficiency.’

‘We already have examples of aged care service providers saving thousands of dollars through field staff using Google maps to plot the best route for home visits, however there is much more that can be done provided the internet has the speed and the capacity which is why ACIITC is supportive of linking aged care service outcomes and enhanced internet capacity,’ said Rod Young, ACAA, CEO.
