How to submit an ACFI claim
Aged care providers can use three methods to submit ACFI transactions:
  • eBusiness
  • a form from the ACFI calculator
  • a form filled out by hand
DoHA and Medicare Australia will support the electronic processing of ACFI transactions. This will be provided in two ways: a web-form to allow direct entry; and through an extension to eBusiness to allow the lodgement of completed electronic forms via the aged care providers' own IT systems.

Providers need to register to use Medicare Australia's online services. Please follow the link for more information: www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/aged-care/claiming.shtml

Online Claiming Authorisation forms

These forms are to be sent to the Aged Care Online Claiming Helpdesk and are used by services to: register to participate in aged care online claiming; notify Medicare Australia of those person/s authorised to sign data electronically with individual certificates and/or the Service’s site certificate; and request access for aged care staff to use aged care online claiming to browse, request reports and submit data that has been signed by an authorised person.

To complete the form by hand:

To submit an ACFI appraisal form manually, you need to complete the “Aged Care Funding Instrument form”. Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) form* [PDF, 280Kb] and send this to Medicare Australia (as with your previous RCS appraisal). This form replaces the Resident Classification Scale (RCS) form. (The form is 2 pages and the resident’s name is only on Page 1, so providers should also staple the pages together to ensure both sections remain together.)
You do not submit the resident’s answer appraisal pack. This pack is to be kept for validation purposes and will be the documentation checked by the Department when they visit.
For further information on completing an appraisal, go to: ACFI Application for Classification
